A MacKenzie Masterpiece
In 1913, just a year after the club was established by a group of passionate local golfers, the legendary Dr. Alister MacKenzie was commissioned to design our 18-hole course. MacKenzie’s distinctive style is still evident throughout the course today, from the strategic bunkering to the undulating greens — features that mirror his work at iconic venues such as Augusta National, Royal Melbourne, Alwoodley, and Moortown Golf Clubs.
Our course offers a fair but challenging test for golfers of all levels. Known for its fast greens and strong finishing stretch, the layout is enhanced by the natural beauty of Cock Beck and Carr Beck, both of which wind their way through the property. Cock Beck, in particular, carries historic significance, having played a part in the infamous Battle of Towton during the War of the Roses in 1461.
